  • BACKGROUND INFORMATION

    Monday 30 May 2016

Suva, Fiji – Participants from 10 Pacific Island countries, including from the private sector and farmers’ organisations, will attend a regional workshop next week to strengthen knowledge management capacity to support access to national agricultural policy, research and market information.

The Regional Workshop on Developing Knowledge Management Capacity for Improved Agriculture Information, Research and Policy Banks in the Pacific is a collaboration between the Pacific Community (SPC), through its European Union-supported Pacific Agriculture Policy Project (PAPP), and the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA).

It will be held in the SPC Pasifika Conference room in Nabua, Suva from 31 May to 3 June 2016.

One of the workshop’s objectives is identifying opportunities to better manage and maintain each country’s agriculture policy information through the use of knowledge management tools, such as the recently launched Agriculture Policy Banks.

SPC is also preparing national outreach plans for the Agricultural Policy Banks, with emphasis on promoting this simple yet innovative tool to help disseminate key policy information to farmers, businesses, policy makers, development partners and other stakeholders.

The workshop will be instrumental for the participating Pacific Island countries in improving ways of disseminating agricultural information and knowledge within each country, and sharing lessons learned across the Pacific Islands region. This process will also assist countries to better manage their agriculture policy banks.

PAPP is part of the IntraACP Agriculture Policy Programme. For more information about the agriculture policy banks, please visit our website: www.spc.int/pafpnet.

MEDIA ACCESS: Media are welcome to attend morning tea on Tuesday 31 May, where the chief guests and participants will be available for interview. For other interview times please make prior arrangements.
